Update Vellure
New versions of Vellure bring fixes and new features. Each version comes as a new ZIP file, which you install beside the one you have and publish when it's ready.
Check your version
Your version is shown in the theme editor under Theme settings → Theme info. See what each version changed in the Release notes.
Update
- Upload the new ZIP file the way you installed Vellure: in Online Store, under Draft themes, click Import theme, then Upload zip file. The new version appears under Draft themes, and your live store doesn't change.
- Bring your settings over. Shopify doesn't copy them into an uploaded theme, so copy the files that hold them:
- On your current Vellure, open ⋯ → Edit code, open
config/settings_data.jsonand copy everything in it. - On the new version, open ⋯ → Edit code, open the same file, replace everything in it with what you copied, and click Save.
- Do the same for each file in templates that you changed, and for
header-group.json,footer-group.jsonandoverlay-group.jsonin sections.
- On your current Vellure, open ⋯ → Edit code, open
- Click Edit theme on the new version, and check your most important pages.
- When you are happy with it, click Publish.
What comes with you
| Comes with those files | Needs care |
|---|---|
| Theme settings, such as colors, fonts and buttons | Templates you created: in the new version's code, click Add a new template with the same name, then paste in the old one's content |
| Your sections and blocks, their order and their settings | Changes made to the code, which you make again by hand |
| App embeds and app blocks | Wording changed in Edit default theme content, which you change again |
| Your own CSS, if the parts of the page it styles have changed |
Your products, collections, menus, pages and blog posts belong to your store, not to the theme, so an update doesn't touch them.
Tip
Keep the previous version under Draft themes for a week or two after you publish the update, so you can switch back if something looks wrong.
