Navigation menus

Every list of links in Vellure comes from a menu you build once in the Shopify admin. The theme then draws it in the right shape for each place: a dropdown or a mega menu in the header, a drill-down drawer on a phone, a column of links in the footer.

Build a menu

1. In the Shopify admin, go to Content → Menus.
2. Open Main menu, or click Create menu for a new one.
3. Click Add menu item, give it a name and choose where it links: a collection, a product, a page, a blog, a policy, or any web address.
4. To put an item under another one, drag it slightly to the right beneath its parent. A menu can have three levels.
5. Click Save.

How Vellure draws the header's menu

What a top-level item opens depends on what you nest under it:

Under the item	What customers see on a computer
Nothing	A plain link.
Links	A dropdown list of those links.
Links that have their own links	A mega menu: a wide panel with a column for each second-level link and its third-level links beneath.

You can also add banners and a row of products to any top-level item with the header's Menu: Banner and Menu: Product list blocks. An item with a banner or products always opens as a mega menu. On a phone, the same menu opens one level at a time in the menu drawer. See Header.

Tip

For a beauty store, a mega menu often works best as Shop → Skincare, Makeup, Body at the second level, with product types such as Serums and Moisturizers at the third.

Important

The header's Menu: Banner and Menu: Product list blocks find their menu item by its name. If you rename a top-level item in Content → Menus, update the Menu item field of its blocks too.
